Third meeting of SOLARIS project in Sofia
Brand Media Bulgaria participates in the consortium exploring how artificial intelligence and GANs in particular influence political freedoms
On April 15-16, Sofia hosted the third meeting of the SOLARIS project team, sponsored by the "Horizon Europe" program. The event was organized by Brand Media Bulgaria and held at the Rosslyn Central Park Hotel.
A year after their inaugural meeting in Amsterdam, the team met again to evaluate progress and strategize for upcoming activities, now under the guidance of a new lead partner, Utrecht University. The event was moderated by the project leader, Prof. Dr. Federica Russo. Participants took part in a creative and productive sessions focused on the strategies for communicating and disseminating upcoming research findings. Earlier this year, the project published two significant studies: "Socio-political and psychological attitudes toward GANs" and "Technical and socio-political reconnaissance of GANs-generated contents".
A key discussion on the first day centered around the theme of trust when talking about human-machine interactions, while another was exploring how AI and specifically generative adversarial networks (GANs) influence political freedoms. The session included a review of international regulations and featured a hands-on trial of a newly developed platform for creating deep fake content, which will be utilized as an experimental environment for the future project studies and simulations.
During the meeting, there was also an online connection with the project's ethical advisory board, who provided valuable feedback on current ethical considerations.
The event concluded with a curated communist history tour of Sofia, where participants visited pivotal sites and gained insights into the everyday lives of Bulgarians during the communist era.
The next face-to-face meeting of the team is scheduled for the fall of 2024 in Madrid.
