The Plovdiv-based company Li-king battery BG EOOD intends to restore and recycle lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles in the Bulgarian village of Topolovo. The documentation of the investment project, submitted to the regional environmental control department, states that the batteries will be supplied on the basis of already concluded contracts with companies such as LG, Tesla, BMW, Mercedes, Samsung, BYD, CATL and EVE.
The batteries to be recycled are used in electric vehicles, forklifts, buses, telephones or computers. Once they arrive at the factory, the batteries will be classified, sorted and processed according to their condition.
The planned recycling capacity is up to 10 tons per day.
Where will the recycling take place?
The activity of recovery and recycling of the batteries will be carried out in a hall with a surface of 1077 square meters, which is rented by the investor company. During the entire battery recovery process, there will be no emissions as the battery cells will not be cut and opened, as Li-king Battery BG reps explain.
Testing will be carried out by machines, and in the event that mechanical treatment of the batteries is required, the company claims that there wouldn’t be any pollution effects. As a result of the tests, the batteries will be divided into two types - Group 1 and Group 2. The first group includes all those that can be restored or repaired. The rest will have the elements separated by mechanical processing.
The company that made the investment proposal was registered in the Bulgarian Commercial Register database only a few months ago - on February 9, 2024 - with a capital of BGN 1,000 (500 euros). Its manager is Petar Atanasov Peychinov, who is also the sole owner of the company. He is also the manager of Li-king battery OOD. His partners in the second enterprise are Sadik Erbaş, Hakan Ozturk and Metin Ozturk. It is noteworthy that the latter company was also registered very recently - on January 18, 2024.
All documentation with the investment proposal was uploaded to the page of the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water - Plovdiv on the penultimate day of May this year.
