SunExpress launches a 3-year flight program to Bulgaria
During that period, there will be regular flights from German airports to Bulgaria in order to improve the tourist flow to the Balkan destination
Electra Airways has officially signed a three-year cooperation with SunExpress (a joint venture between Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines) for a flight program between Germany and Bulgaria. The flights will be carried out by the Bulgarian airline, and commercial planning, sales, distribution and marketing will be carried out by the Turkish-German company.
With 32 weekly connections from seven German airports (Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt/Main, Hanover, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart), the flight program will significantly improve the connectivity of the Burgas and Varna airports, part of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD, which will in turn increase the flow of German tourists to the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.
The partnership was first announced at the ITB-Berlin travel trade show, which took place earlier this year.
The flight program will officially start in the summer months of 2025 and continue into 2026 and 2027.
Flights can now be booked through reputable tour operators and travel agencies. It is expected that at a later stage, the possibility of booking seats will also be available through the SunExpress website. The first flight is planned for the end of May 2025.
In the first year - 2025 - two Airbus A320 aircraft will perform the flights, one of which will be based at Burgas Airport and the other at Varna Airport. In 2026, the number will be doubled to four aircraft and further increased to a total of seven aircraft in 2027, depending on demand.
Currently, the Turkish-German venture also operates seasonal flights from Sofia Airport to Antalya. SunExpress began these flights in September 2023.
