Three companies want to supply batteries for NEK's hydroelectric power plants
The Bulgarian energy operator’s idea to install batteries at these plants will cost over 50 million euros

Bulgaria’s National Electricity Company (NEK) has received indicative offers from three companies for the equipping of four of its hydroelectric power plants with electricity storage systems with a total capacity of nearly 280 MWh. In November, NEK began market consultations, which ended a few days ago.
The companies that are applying to get the energy storage systems contracts are the Varna-based company 3K AD, PM Electrical EOOD and Telelink Infra Services EAD. The deadline by which the companies take up to fulfill the order is between mid- and late March 2026.
Calculations show that NEK's idea to install batteries at its hydroelectric power plants will have a price tag of over 50 million euros, excluding VAT.
Where will the batteries be placed?
Here is a breakdown of the four hydro plants and the specific offers from each supplier.
At the Aleko Hydropower Plant, the plan a battery with a capacity of 101.52 MWh is planned:
- 3K AD offers a Chinese Huawei battery with a total price of the entire order of 27.5 million euros.
- PM Electrical EOOD has submitted an offer for 21.5 million euros with a battery from the Chinese energy equipment supplier Sieyuan.
- Telelink Infra Services EAD submitted a proposal for a total price of 18.5 million euros offering a Bulgarian system from International Power Supply AD.
A battery with a capacity of 101.52 MWh is also planned for the Studen Kladenets Hydropower Plant, for which the companies’ offers are as follows:
- 3K AD at a total cost of 27.5 million euros, battery from Huawei
- PM Electrical EOOD – 21.8 million euros with a Sieyuan battery
- Telelink Infra Services EAD – 18.5 million euros with equipment from International Power Supply AD
For the Devin HPP, the battery is planned to have a capacity of 56 MWh and a nominal power of 25 MW:
- 3K AD offers a price of 17.4 million euros and equipment from Huawei
- PM Electrical EOOD – 13.4 million euros and a Sieyuan system
- Telelink Infra Services EAD has also submitted a bid for a total price of 10.7 million euros with a battery from International Power Supply AD.
At the Topolnitsa HPP, the idea is for the system to have a total capacity of 20 MWh and a nominal power of 10 MW, and the facility will be required to have a minimum delivery/charging time of 2 hours:
- 3K AD submits an offer worth a total of 5.5 million euros, with a battery from Huawei.
- PMElectrical EOOD sends an offer for 4.5 million euros with Sieyuan equipment
- Telelink Infra Services EAD - 3.25 million euros with a system from International Power Supply AD.
