Tatyana Yavasheva Tsvetanka Karaivanova is the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the companies of Dundee Precious Metals in Chelopech and Krumovgrad. She has started her carrier at the mining company and through the years has held various positions within the finance and accounting department. In 2011, she headed the team of the finance department, and in 2013, she became the CFO of the company. She graduated from the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” with a Master’s degree in Economics. She also holds a diploma in Financial Management from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
In order to become a good financier, I learned to pay attention to details, which helps me interpret the financial information, and every day I strive to pass on some of my experience and learn something new.
A good work practice for me is the one that is focused on people. Each year, we allocate funds for training, we take care of safety and create an environment where people are motivated and satisfied with what they do.
A financier should know the company’s production very well. That is why communicating with people is very important. Thanks to my colleagues’ experience and ideas, we can make internal optimisation of processes and achieve significant reduction in costs.
Through the figures, I can see the whole cycle of production.
Financial management is a difficult task and its foundation is good planning and discipline. I am guided by my colleagues' experience and the good practices for protecting the company's interests.
What brings me satisfaction is each improvement my colleagues and I make together. Through the investment for expanding and modernisation of the mine and the refinery, we increased the production to 2.2 million this year, and we continue to invest and improve our internal processes in all units of the company.
The risks in our work are many: foreign markets, metal prices, exchange rates, interest rates. We are constantly looking for ways to reduce the negative effects on our financial performance.
The business of Dundee Precious Metals is golden. It is also golden in terms of the investments we make in people and the regions where we operate.
If I look back at the last ten years, I can see the huge change we have achieved. Because of our everyday efforts, we become better and better.
The “golden rule” that gives me confidence as a professional: It is good to hear every employee’s opinion. In our company, everyone can freely state their point of view. The lack of any barriers leads to ideas for improvement and continuous development, which also affects the financial performance of the company.
It is a good sign for the company when its CFO smiles. That is how employees know that the business is going well and everyone is happy.
I turned to finance as a field of realisation at the language high-school I attended, because mathematics was my favourite subject. I love preparing financial reports and analyses, it brings me satisfaction and gives me more confidence in my job.

Dundee Precious Metals Chelopech EAD is a Bulgarian company for extraction and processing of copper-gold-pyrite ores, a concessionaire of the Chelopech deposit. The recovery of metals is carried out underground and the extracted ore is processed to mineral concentrates. Dundee Precious Metals Krumovgrad EAD is a company for prospecting and exploration of mineral deposits. For more than 13 years, it has been investing in the development of an open cast mine in the Ada Tepe area near Krumovgrad.
