Biovet helped 43 families in Peshtera acquire the land on which their homes stand
The initiative was carried out in partnership with the America for Bulgaria Foundation, the Trust for Social Alternative, the Community Investment Fund – Peshtera, and the Municipality of Peshtera
On April 30, 2026, Biovet AD donated 19.2 decares of land to help address a decades-old challenge in Peshtera’s Pirin neighborhood. The process leading to this milestone was formally initiated at a ceremony held at the InterContinental Sofia on September 17, 2025, where Biovet AD, the America for Bulgaria Foundation, the Trust for Social Achievement Foundation, and the Community Investment Fund - Peshtera Foundation announced their commitment to the neighborhood’s long-term development and signed the agreement enabling the donation.
This contribution creates a legal pathway for 43 families to purchase the land beneath their homes and formalize their community, helping them better integrate into municipal systems. More than a transfer of property, it represents an important step toward greater stability, dignity, and long-term opportunity for families in the neighborhood.
This milestone is the result of collaboration between Biovet AD, the Trust for Social Achievement, the Community Investment Fund - Peshtera, and the America for Bulgaria Foundation. Together, these partners are advancing practical solutions that help informal neighborhoods become formally recognized, giving families the chance to move from uncertainty toward greater security.
A partnership model for meaningful change
Complex social challenges are often best addressed through coordinated action. This initiative builds on more than a decade of work by the Trust for Social Achievement to develop a model to support vulnerable communities, with a focus on the Roma, by helping municipalities to regulate informal neighborhoods and expand access to formalized homes and ultimately ownership. Peshtera is becoming an important example of how collaboration between the private sector, civil society, local government, and residents can produce meaningful results.
What this means for families?
For decades, many families in the Pirin neighborhood lived without the certainty that comes with formal housing. Without regulated property boundaries or legal status for their homes, they often faced ongoing insecurity. Biovet’s donation helps change that path.
With the land now transferred to the Community Investment Fund - Peshtera, the Trust for Social Achievement will work with the Municipality of Peshtera and local residents to develop a detailed urban plan. This process will pave the way for families to purchase their plots and legalize their homes, creating stronger protections, clearer property rights, and better opportunities to invest in their futures.
For families, this can mean greater security and stability. For children, safer living conditions. For the wider community, a stronger foundation for future development.
Beyond a single donation
Biovet AD’s contribution extends beyond the land transfer itself. The company will continue participating in an advisory council alongside the Trust for Social Achievement and the Community Investment Fund - Peshtera to help support transparency, accountability, and successful implementation.
This continued involvement highlights the broader value of sustained private sector participation in social progress. When businesses engage not only as donors but as long-term partners, they can help strengthen communities in practical and lasting ways.
As residents begin purchasing their plots from the Community Investment Fund-Peshtera, resources generated from the sales will be reinvested into future initiatives supporting the Pirin neighborhood and other vulnerable communities, helping expand opportunity over time.
The Pirin neighborhood’s progress shows what is possible when businesses, nonprofits, local institutions, and residents work together around a shared goal. Through collaboration and sustained commitment, this initiative offers a strong example of how partnership can help create lasting social and economic change.
