Liebherr expands its operations in Bulgaria and creates new jobs
The German industrial company is hiring assembly workers for refrigerator production
The German industrial company Liebherr is expanding its manufacturing operations in Bulgaria and hiring new employees. The positions available are in assembly for refrigerator production at the “Liebherr – Hausgeräte Maritsa” plant (the home appliances factory). The company has three facilities in Bulgaria, all located in the Plovdiv region.
In June 2025, Liebherr announced a significant expansion of its operations around Plovdiv, including the construction of a new, larger production facility for its second local subsidiary, “Liebherr – Maritsa Transport Systems”. The facility, located in the “Maritsa” subzone of the Trakia Economic Zone, covers an area of approximately 20,000 square meters and is dedicated to the development of railway and transportation HVAC systems, as well as manufacturing and assembly for the aviation industry.
Among the aerospace components manufactured are parts for landing gear, climate control systems, and flight control mechanisms. At the same time, the company continues to manufacture heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems for rail transport, refrigeration units for refrigerated semi-trailers, as well as concrete equipment – concrete mixer trucks and concrete batching plants. The finished products are destined for all European countries and the Middle East.
The relocation of assembly operations will create additional jobs at the new facility in the Plovdiv area, while Liebherr aims to keep its workforce at existing sites intact by capitalizing on growth in other product areas or operations,” the company stated in June 2025.
Liebherr has three main subsidiaries in the country, all based in the Plovdiv area. The German company entered the Bulgarian market with the “Liebherr – Maritsa Household Appliances” plant, with the first factory opening its doors in 1999. Currently, it manufactures appliances for both household and professional use. Liebherr’s most luxurious refrigerator, from the MultiDoor series, is manufactured there and is in high demand worldwide. Currently, the plant produces approximately 868,000 appliances annually, making it one of the company’s key European manufacturing centers for refrigeration equipment.
The second company, “Liebherr – Maritsa Transport Systems”, began operations in 2004. Its primary focus is the production of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, rail vehicles, and cooling and temperature control systems for transportation applications.
The third is “Liebherr – Concrete Technology Maritsa”, which opened in 2021 and manufactures fully assembled concrete mixers, modules, and structures for them.
The three companies currently provide approximately 2,000 jobs in the country.
