The Bulgarian Stock Exchange’s (BSE) leading index, SOFIX, set a historic record on Friday, according to the BSE. Just days after marking the 26th anniversary of its creation it surpassed the 2 000-pt mark.
The previous record was set on October 15, 2007, when the index reached 1 952.40 pts.
In early October the index crossed the 1 500-pt mark for the first time since 2008.
SOFIX’s growth began even before Bulgaria joined the eurozone,” according to the BSE. “Strong results were achieved as early as January, followed by a correction,” the BSE stated.
Thanks to the index’s steady growth, as well as MSCI’s upgrade of the capital market to “frontier market” status, 2026 is shaping up to be the year in which the BSE will realize its potential and unlock new opportunities for business development and growth.
As a reminder SOFIX is Bulgaria’s first official stock market index, established on October 20, 2000, with an initial value of 100 pts. It comprises 15 of the leading companies traded on the stock exchange and its calculation takes into account market capitalization and free-float volume.
Over time Bulgaria’s main capital market index has established itself as the primary measure of the performance of the leading public companies in the Bulgarian economy. It also reflects periods of accelerated economic growth and heightened investor interest as well as the challenges facing the market.
