The IT sector in Bulgaria: Who are the largest employers?

The labor market is sending more and more signals of cooling down

The IT industry continues to be one of the engines of the Bulgarian economy. Despite a certain slowdown in the sector's previously rapid growth, its revenues keep rising. However, observations on the labor market show that there are more and more signs of cooling.

The software industry is still expecting an increase in the number of employees. According to BASCOM, 2,675 new jobs were created in the industry in 2023, and about 2,000 more are expected in 2024.

The total number of employees in the Bulgarian software industry exceeds 60,000. And in the outsourcing sector, there are over 100,000.

The question that interests many minds is: Where do these people work?

A ranking on the DEV.BG Job Board reveals the largest IT employers in Bulgaria, by ranking companies according to the number of employees in their IT departments in the country.

The top 5 IT employers in Bulgaria are:

DXC Technology
SAP Labs Bulgaria
Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HPE)
DraftKings
VMware

All of these companies are foreign employers that have chosen to open offices in Bulgaria. Germany's SAP has had the longest presence in the country, operating there since 2000. The other four companies are US-based.
