Bulgaria, Poland, Croatia and Romania are on track to sharply increase their exports of clean technologies that are important to the European Union. These include products such as solar panels, heat pumps, batteries for electric vehicles, wind turbines and more – a growing global market worth trillions of euros a year.
The forecast is part of a World Bank report, which says this is a "promising market" for the four countries and they can significantly help the European Union achieve its goal of net zero emissions by 2050, as well as increase its global competitiveness.
World Bank simulations suggest that these countries could triple or even quadruple their clean technology exports if they maintain or exceed their current market shares.
And this potential surge in clean technology exports could generate significant domestic development and increased economic stability for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, including Bulgaria.
European goal
The European institutions aim for local production in the bloc countries to meet about 40% of clean technology needs by the end of this decade and 15% of global clean energy demand by 2040.
