Rubin Plant invests BGN 250 million in modernizing its three glass furnaces
The Pleven-based company will hire 150 more people from the region

The Rubin glass factory in Pleven officially launched its new Bath Furnace No. 3, a high-tech production facility of the new generation. With this, Rubin Trading EAD has completed a key stage of its strategic investment program worth BGN 250 million, implemented with the support of Post Bank.
The event coincided with the 60th anniversary of the company's founding and became a symbol not only of technological progress but also of long-term commitment to the industry and the region.
In a year when Rubin celebrates 60 years of history, we are honored to open Furnace No. 3. In addition to being a high-tech achievement, it is also a sign of our confidence in the future of Bulgarian industry,” emphasized CEO Nikolay Mochev.
The company describes the project as the largest industrial investment in northwestern Bulgaria in recent decades, both in terms of capital investment and technological innovation and socio-economic impact on the region.
All three furnaces currently in operation at the plant are now of the new generation. As part of the project, a new ignition system with precise thermal control developed by Excelsius Global Services GmbH has been implemented. This is the first system of its kind in the world to be installed in an industrial glass furnace.
This is the third installation we have created for Rubin. We work very well with our partners here. This is an ambitious project that puts the factory at a very high level. It is an important investment for Europe and Bulgaria,” commented Alexander Zorg, managing partner at Nikolaus Sorg GmbH & Co. KG, a leader in glass melting and conditioning technology.
With the implementation of the investment in the Rubin plant, 150 new employees will be hired from the region, bringing the total number of employees at the company to over 600. According to the company, the average salary at the glass factory is more than 20% higher than the regional average, making the company a key factor for the economic stability of northwestern Bulgaria, one of the most socially and economically vulnerable regions in the country.
I am delighted that we are starting production with our Bulgarian partner using a completely new technology. It allows glass to be produced at a working temperature of 1350 degrees Celsius. A completely new burner philosophy is used, which is actually the latest technology on the market. This is the future,” commented Florian Ehrenfels, head of the SKS and Excelsius teams.
The symbolic lighting of the new furnace was performed by four key figures: Nikolaus Sorg, managing partner of Nikolaus Sorg; Alexander Zorg; Werner Gesner, Vice President of Emhart Glass; Asen Yagodin, CEO of Postbank; and Nikolay Mochev, CEO of Rubin.
