Pamporovo AD, the sole operator of all chairlift facilities and the entire infrastructure in the eponymous Bulgarian resort, has announced a new large-scale project with the ambition to attract tourists all year round.
The company plans to build a thermal park in a high-altitude area between Devin and Pamporovo, and the mineral water for its supply will come from the flow of Bedenski Bani spring, the company's executive director Marian Belyakov announced the project, quoted by BTA.
Devin Municipality plans to issue a construction permit this fall so that the thermal park will be fully ready by the summer of 2026 at the latest.
According to Marian Belyakov, the thermal park will be the only one of its kind in Bulgaria with many outdoor pools, a balneotherapy area and an indoor complex.
The park will be in sync with Pamporovo's concept of summer and winter tourism and fits in with plans to return the Bulgarian resort to its former glory from the days when it was in its prime as a summer destination.
The basis of the new idea is ‘climatotherapy’, which is seen as a future trend in tourism given the presence of global warming. The expert predictions state that the mountain resort will become an extremely desirable place to be where people can escape from the unbearable heat of summer.
According to Belyakov, these plans are already causing increased interest from abroad in Pamporovo's summertime offers, and there are even talks about chartered tour programs for the summer.
