The Ministry of Transport will announce a public tender for the delivery of 20 passenger trains running on biodiesel. They will be dual-fuel and will be able to use both biofuel and regular diesel, BTA reports.
The estimated cost and financing of the new acquisitions are not clear at this stage.
The news of the order was announced by the minister responsible, Grozdan Karadzhov, during the “Tour of Europe” initiative aimed at promoting renewable fuels.
According to him, the order will be announced in the coming days.
He believes that the supply of biodiesel fuel is now a matter of demand rather than regulation.
Distributors are required to include a certain percentage of biofuels. From now on, there is almost no excuse for a gas station not to offer biodiesel," the minister commented.
He predicted that with its growing use in freight and passenger transport, the availability of the fuel will improve.
When asked by BTA about the price of biodiesel, Karadzhov pointed out that it is no higher than that of conventional diesel.
The problem is not the price, but the fact that it is not yet widely available,” he explained.
