NEK will install a battery at Vacha-1 hydropower plant
The pilot project of Bulgarian national electricity company has a capacity of 10 MWh
The Bulgarian National Electricity Company (NEK) will soon issue a public order for a battery to be installed at the Vacha-1 hydroelectric power plant. This was stated by the executive director of the state-owned company, Martin Georgiev, to journalists.
The indicative value of the order will be around 2.5 million euros, and the implementation of the project will last between 9 and 12 months.
The battery has a planned storage capacity of 10 MWh.
The project is a pilot for NEK and was announced last week when Georgiev said it was in the development stage.
We are looking at all the hydropower plants where there is a free area and possibility for connection," he said today.
The Vacha-1 hydropower plant near Krichim is a derivative plant with an installed capacity of 14MW, part of the lowest section of the "Dospat-Vacha" hydropower cascade.
Last spring, its modernization was completed at a cost of nearly 5 million euros, with the financing provided by the Kozloduy International Fund and the Bulgarian National Electricity Company (NEK).
