Bansko is growing with a new holiday resort
A local company plans to build a complex consisting of 14 houses
In recent years, Bansko has become a preferred destination for digital nomads. Not long ago, the BBC also presented the Bulgarian town as a “new digital nomad hub" thanks to its unique location. Along with all this, the tourism sector in the city also keeps developing and offering new accommodation options.
One of the latest examples of the growth of the resort town is the upcoming construction of a holiday complex of 14 houses. It will be located in the "Ovinache" area and will have an area of 6,191 square meters.
The holiday complex
The plans of the developer - a local company called Pirin Estate - is to build four one-story houses with an area of 185 square meters each; seven two-story houses of 150 square meters each, as well as three more two-story twin houses with an area of 180 square meters. The territory on which the future complex will be built is former agricultural land with a changed designation - for residential and vacation construction. This becomes clear from the development intention uploaded for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) on the website of the environmental directorate of Burgas a few days ago.
Well-known businessmen from Bansko, who have had been linked to various public procurements and activities on the municipal territory, participate in the management of the company. Konstantin Obetzanov is listed as the manager of Pirin Estate, and he is also involved in the management of seven other companies operating in the town.
Other partners in the company are the brothers Ivan Erinin and Yordan Erinin, who likewise participate in the management of several other companies operating on the territory of Bansko.
Development of winter resorts
Once again, this past winter, Bulgaria experienced a winter season full of systemic problems that had been accumulating for years – and still without being able to find a solution. Yet the development of winter resorts did not stop. Pamporovo, for instance, acquired a new six-seater ski lift between Malina and Snezhanka peaks.
In Borovets, where there has been almost zero construction in recent years, it was announced that very soon a large-scale project for a modern gated residential complex will be built. Called 7Angels, it will appear on the site of the former Zodiak Hotel.
Despite all these developments, this year the ski resort sector was adamant that there are many administrative obstacles and a number of loopholes in the laws, which lead to the impossibility of Bulgaria becoming a competitive winter destination. On top of that, a new scandal involving the Simeonovo ski lift in Sofia’s mountain – Vitosha - broke out recently, which served as another proof of the lack of dialogue between the public and private sectors. Until such conflicts are resolved, the construction of hotels and holiday complexes will hardly be enough to turn Bulgaria into a top winter destination.
