Bulgaria expects to receive the second payment under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) by mid-October. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev during Friday's parliamentary question time.
The request is currently being processed, and Donchev expects the procedure to be completed on September 15, having received assurances from the EC, in his words, that Bulgaria has fulfilled its commitments for the second payment.
He recalled that the revised request for a second payment of over €650 million was sent in July, as committed, and after agreement was reached with the EC on changing the NAP.
Regarding the third payment, the Deputy Prime Minister announced that the plan is to send the request to the EC for a tranche of over €1.6 billion before the end of September, so that the funds are available by the end of the year.
Tomislav Donchev recalled that there is an agreement in principle with the EC to reduce and regroup the payments under the NAP from the initial total of nine, so that in 2026 Bulgaria will receive the remaining funds under the Plan in two payments.
