FlixBus is expanding its expert hub in Sofia
The German company plans to almost double the staff at its Bulgarian centre, making it the second largest after the one in Munich
The sustainable transport company FlixMobility, known for its "green" bus and train services FlixBus and FlixTrain, plans to hire more employees at its expert hub in Sofia. This became clear after a meeting held between the Bulgarian Minister of Economy and Industry Bogdan Bogdanov and the Chief Financial Officer of FlixBus, Christoph Debus. The ministry’s press release states that future plans for the expansion of Flix's activities in Bulgaria were discussed between the two men.
The company's expert hub in Sofia currently employs over 60 people, and the team is expected to grow to reach 100 specialists this year. With this, the Bulgarian office will become the second largest centre of the German company after the one in Munich.
The Sofia hub was opened in 2021, with its employees mainly responsible for marketing, accounting and tech support activities.
Founded in 2012, FlixBus is based in Germany, but is now present in 42 countries and has over 78 million customers from Europe, and North and South America. It has the most extensive bus network in Europe.
According to Minister Bogdanov, Bulgaria is a good place for investment and business development as it is becoming a focal point for R&D activities in this part of Europe.
We have proven engineering capacities and more and more companies are showing interest in opening R&D and expert centres in our country," he stressed.
Bogdan Bogdanov announced that Bulgaria has recently reported the highest growth of foreign direct investments (FDI) for the last 12 years. Just for the period of January - November 2023, they amounted to EUR 3.5 billion. The increase is nearly EUR 1 billion more than the same period of 2022.
