Glavbolgarstroy presented its vision for the efficient use of primary raw materials in the construction sector. The Bulgarian construction holding participated in the discussions in the "Raw materials for achieving zero emission goals" panel, part of the international conference "Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area and Norway: Business Cooperation and the European Green Deal", which took place last week in Sofia.
The focus of Glavbolgarstroy's participation was the MOBICCON-PRO project, implemented under the EU framework program for scientific research and innovation "Horizon Europe". The initiative aims to develop new practices at each phase of the waste management cycle from the demolition of buildings and the construction process - not only in Bulgaria but also in the entire region of South-Eastern Europe.
There are measures to optimize the process of the separate stages: pre-demolition audit, selective demolition, transport, recycling, certification of new construction materials from recycled raw materials and their subsequent re-application in the construction process. Glavbolgarstroy is the project coordinator, but it also partners with the scientific and research community, such as the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy (Bulgaria), CY Cergy Paris University (France), Danish Technological Institute (Denmark), the non-governmental sector - Economic Policy Institute (Bulgaria), the business sector - IDEA (Belgium) and the public sector - Municipality of Pirot (Serbia).
Our project MOBICCON-PRO imposes a completely new concept in the treatment of construction waste, using it as a resource and returning it back to the construction process or to the market. The innovative practices for selective demolition and management of construction waste, which are embedded in the project, aim to achieve a reduction in the volume of primary raw materials used in the construction process and a reduction in CO2 emissions. I am glad that the project has found many supporters and possibly partners", said Kalin Marinov, head of the International Relations and Strategic Development Department at Glavbolgarstroy, during the "Raw materials for achieving zero emission goals" panel.

The conference, organized by the Innovation Norway agency, in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, seeks to contribute to the achievement of the goals set in the European Green Deal, to identify the challenges to business cooperation in the field of green solutions, to highlight the best ways to cooperate in the field of green business solutions and to create synergies between support under the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area and Norway, as well as European and national funding schemes or programmes.
The event was attended by over 150 business representatives from Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Portugal and Romania, who had the opportunity to establish new contacts and start new partnerships to more easily overcome the challenges related to the fulfillment of commitments to reduce the harmful emissions laid down in the Green Deal, while at the same time maintaining and developing their competitiveness.
