The Zhelyazkov cabinet is preparing for a new domestic loan of BGN 300 million. According to a statement on the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) website, on Monday (August 25), the institution will hold a new auction for 3-year government securities (GSS) worth BGN 300 million.
They will mature on January 22, 2028. This is the fifth loan of this size and the tenth auction on the domestic market since the beginning of 2025. The last such loan was drawn on June 16, but was for a 7-year DSC issue. With the planned auction, the total new domestic debt since the beginning of the year will reach BGN 2.4 billion.
In July, Bulgaria once again entered the international markets, issuing debt worth EUR 3.2 billion, or about BGN 6.25 billion. This happened after a number of rating agencies, including Standard & Poor's, Fitch Ratings, and others, upgraded our country's sovereign credit rating.
The total domestic and foreign debt incurred by the state this year is around BGN 16 billion. We would like to remind you that according to the state budget for 2025, the debt ceiling for the current year is BGN 18.9 billion.
