Stankov: Gas and fuel supplies to Bulgaria are secure
The energy minister is adamant that there is no danger to the country's supply if the Strait of Ormuz is blocked
Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov assured that Bulgaria's energy supply is secure and no problems with deliveries are expected. He made the statement during a briefing after a working meeting at the Council of Ministers, which discussed the escalation of tensions in the Middle East and possible threats to the country.
Stankov explained that Bulgaria is not directly dependent on supplies from the Strait of Hormuz, which could be blocked by Iran in response to US bombing.
There is cargo (with liquid fuels) that has been ordered and will dock in Burgas Bay in a few days; it has already left the territory and will not have any impact, even if the strait is closed," Stankov said.
The energy minister also pointed out that future supplies to the Russian refinery in Burgas are secured from other sources, so that the escalating tension will have no impact.
With regard to natural gas supplies to the country, under a long-term contract, Bulgaria continues to receive 1 billion cubic meters through the Bulgarian-Greek gas connection from Azerbaijan.
A few weeks ago, we signed a contract for the delivery of one ship carrying 100 million cubic meters of gas, which we expect to arrive at the liquefied natural gas terminals on June 26 and 27," Stankov added.
The minister pointed out that the Bulgarian state, represented by Bulgargaz as a state-owned company, is securing the quantities requested by Bulgarian consumers, both households and businesses, at prices that are about 15% below the market price of natural gas.
